It’s hard to believe that 20 years ago, fresh out of college, a big-haired, heavy metal fan walked through the doors here at K-Frog Radio for a brand new job as a Country Radio DJ, and never left. Yes, this week, I celebrated my 20-Year Anniversary at K-Frog. I thought I’d share a few fun photos from the last 2 decades, and give you a year-by-year look at some of my most memorable moments on K-Frog:
– I get used to doing live radio remotes with a giant “brick” cell phone that comes in a suitcase.
– I get engaged and dumped in the same year.
– I appear at a Steer Riding Fundraiser, get bucked off a steer and meet my future husband.
– My musical hero, John Denver dies in a plane crash, and I give up my strange addiction to Jerry Springer on TV.
– I get married, buy a house and the Dixie Chicks are all over the airwaves.
– My best friend marries Frogman Scott, co-host of the Frogmen In The Morning Show With Scott and Bo.
– Shania Twain feels like a woman and so do I, as hubby and I decide to try for a baby.
– 9/11 happens.
– Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines makes “the Presidential comment” and ends the Chicks’ reign.. for good; and the Country Music Community loses Johnny and June.
– Still no baby.
– Still no baby.
– A baby! In the middle of a remote at Richardson’s RV, I get asked to meet with the Birth Parents of a little girl with congenital heart defects about to be born and placed for adoption. Hubby and I meet the Birth Parents in the lobby of Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital on Sunday night, June 4th. Peyton was born on Thursday, June 7th, and placed with us on June 9th. PERMANENTLY.
– Our adoption of Peyton is finalized, Shania Twain and Mutt Lange separate, and Taylor Swift blows the doors off the Country charts with a string of hits like, “Tim McGraw” and “Teardrops On My Guitar”.
– Garth comes out of “retirement” for a run of shows in Vegas; K-Frog celebrates 20 years on the air.
– Carrie Underwood becomes the first woman in history to win Entertainer of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards; Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert get engaged and become Country Musics’ “Power Couple”.
– My daughter started Kindergarten and I bury my hero, my 45-year old brother Tommy, who dies unexpectedly.
– And here we are 20 years later… the iPhone now replaces the “brick” phone for my remotes, and I’m a normal Mom who likes to FaceTime, Tweet, Instagram and Facebook pics of my daughter and dogs, who happens to still be on-the-air at the very best place on earth…. K-Frog.
THANK YOU for an amazing 20 years!
