They came to drink, they came to dance, they came for a good time. And Jon Pardi provided the perfect soundtrack.

His sold-out album release party at the Brandin’ Iron in San Bernardino Friday night (July 1st) was heavy on fiddle and steel guitar, and naturally included nearly every song from his newly released album California Sunrise, as well as plenty of songs from his debut album Write You a Song as well.

His traditional sound, mixed with a contemporary edge, is one that’s easy to dance to, and a few audience members managed to find a bit of space on the crowded dance floor to take advantage of the honky-tonk atmosphere. They swayed to the ballad “That Man,” then swirled about to “Heartache on the Dance Floor,” which Jon noted was about Southern California.

The Dixon, California native made a toast to being “back on the West Coast,” before performing “When I’ve Been Drinking,” which, like many of his songs, had the crowd singing along with every note.

He shared that one of his favorite songs on the new record is the heartbreak song “She Ain’t In It,” followed by “Trash a Hotel Room,” a song which, if the crowd wasn’t rowdy before, certainly sent them over the top.

Audience favorites included his first Top 10 “Up All Night,” as well as his current single, “Head Over Boots,” which closed the show, and his well-received cover of George Strait’s “Nobody in His Right Mind.”

Jon will perform “Head Over Boots” on NBC’s “The Today Show” this Thursday, July 7th.
