Perhaps best known for being Steven Tyler‘s solo backing band, Loving Mary brought their ’70s country-rock throwback sound to a more than receptive audience to the Brandin’ Iron in San Bernardino Sunday night (July 3rd).

Just a few lines into their first song, and the crowd was hooked. Led by Hawthorne, California native Marti Frederiksen (co-writer on Carrie Underwood‘s “Undo It”), “Rock Star: INXS” contestant Suzie McNeil, Grammy-winning country singer-songwriter Rebecca Lynn Howard, and her husband Elisha Hoffman, Loving Mary’s full-length debut album was released earlier that weekend, and their set was mostly comprised of music from that CD, but they threw in a few surprises, as well.

Their influences were evident from their versions of Fleetwood Mac and Janis Joplin songs, but their originals held their own, and the audience’s favor. They were singing along with the chorus by the end of “Drinking with You,” and “Knock Knock” (which showcased Rebecca Lynn Howard’s ability to hit notes that would be impossible for anyone less talented) started an impromptu Black Velvet line dance.

Following the performance, Loving Mary stuck around to take pictures and sign autographs at their merch table, and from the endless line, it’s clear that this crowd loved Loving Mary.
