On Wednesday, a federal judge ruled that  John Hinckley Jr., the guy who tried to assassinate President Ronald Reagan back in 1981, can be released from a psychiatric hospital.

Hinckley shot President Reagan and three others outside a DC hotel in 1981. At that time, James Brady, the White House press secretary was also shot and partially paralyzed.

Hinckley was found not guilty because at that time he pleaded insanity.

Hinckley has been released to live with his Mom in Williamsburg, Virginia, but with special restrictions.

The judge believes he is no longer a danger to himself or others.
