In┬áthe “Musical Insights” series, country artists share their thoughts on some of their most popular tunes.

Eric Church’s latest #1 hit, “Record Year,” a song he wrote with his guitar/banjo player Jeff Hyde, reveals some of the albums that are likely in his collection.

“There’s a line in the song, and it talks about ‘slowly planning my survival/in a three-foot stack of vinyl,'” Eric says in audio provided by the Universal Music Group Nashville.

“And I’ve done that, where you take your records out and go, ‘Okay, by the time I get to the bottom of this stack, I’m gonna be better or worse, and this is where I’m heading,'” he continues with a laugh. “It’s a great thing about music, is it can become a point of therapy and healing.”
