Album releases become available for download Fridays at midnight East Coast Time. Since that’s 9pm Thursday night West Coast Time, every Thursday night, Pepper picks her three favorite songs from the new country albums and plays them on K-Frog for New at Nine! Here are her picks for this week.

Justin Moore says the idea to call his latest album Kinda Don’t Care started as a tongue-in-cheek idea, but when he joked about it to the head of his record label, Scott Borchetta, he loved it!

“We did do some stuff that was outside my comfort zone on this album,” reveals Justin in audio provided by the Big Machine Label Group. “And that kinda made me a little nervous, and I’m a little gun-shy to do those things, because I don’t ever want to contradict myself from a musical perspective in the eyes of my fans. I don’t want them to go, ‘Man, why’s he doing this?’ and things like that.

And I was kinda worrying about those things, and [Scott] pulled me aside and he goes, ‘Man, you gotta chill. Dude – have you ever heard yourself sing? It sounds country! No matter what. I heard you sing “Purple Rain” in concert the other night – it sounded country! And it sounds like you! And as long as you have a passion for this music and you love it, it’s gonna be infectious, and other people are going to love it.’

“So, I took that to heart and said, ‘You know what, he’s right, I need to not care and not worry about that, I just need to work on making this as good as it can be, so that was one of the reasons why I thought [the title] really related to this album.”

Here are the three songs from Kinda Don’t Care that I played for New at Nine tonight:

  1. Somebody Else Will
  2. You Look Like I Need a Drink
  3. Pickup Lines

Look for Justin on the Fox and Friends All American Summer Concert Series tomorrow (Friday, August 12th)!
