In the “Musical Insights” series, country artists share their thoughts on some of their most popular tunes.

“Vice” is the first single Miranda Lambert has released since her split with fellow country artist Blake Shelton, and the subject matter is pretty dark.

“I just hope that everybody that hears it can kind of feel like they’re not on an island, that we all have things in our life that aren’t necessarily pleasant to talk about, but this song is just as honest as you can get about emotions and letting raw emotions just live where they live until you move on to a happier place,” she explains in a video she posted on her Facebook page.

“And it’s kind of the cycle of life; we can’t be sunshine and roses everyday, and sometimes, when we’re not, we find things that make us feel better at the moment,” she continues. “And that’s what a vice is. I think when you go through something in your life that’s hard, you learn what you run to and what you run from, and sometimes that comes full circle. It’s a very clear image of somebody that’s willing to just lay it out there and be honest. No one’s heard music from me in a while, and this felt like the perfect song to lead off with, because it’s still me just being who I am.”
