Thompson Square and several hundred of their most diehard fans braved the heat on Saturday (9/10) to rock the second annual SBD Fest Airshow.

The temperature wasn’t the only thing hot: Thompson Square had the stage loaded with 3 guitars, all of which got a chance to be enjoyed by the enthusiastic crowd.

The rock and roll guitar intro on “Trans Am” set the tone early in the set and made for a nice transition into the chicken pickin’ opening on “Here’s To Being Here.”

The boys onstage with their guitars tried to steal as much of the audience’s attention as possible, but even they were no match for the namesakes of the band,  real-life married couple Keifer and Shawna Thompson.

Their ability to shift from playful on “Everything I Shouldn’t Be Thinking About” to full-blown romantics on “You Make It Look So Good” is impressive, a result of seasoned showmanship and a genuine love for working together.

Shawna and Keifer Thompson could have opted for a solo careers but they found a synergy as a duo that is unmatched.

Keifer’s power and Shawna’s tenderness provide a nice contrast on songs like “Glass,” which leaves the listener wondering why it wasn’t a bigger hit at radio.

Thompson Square is augmented onstage by a first-rate four piece backing band, all of whom took a minute to shine on some of their favorite classic rock riffs towards the end of the show.

Keifer pulled the showbiz curtain back just a tad when he told the audience they were going to forgo the concert staple known as the encore. After explaining it was because they were “in the middle of a freaking field” and they really had nowhere to hide for two minutes, they went straight to the finale.

Promising a bit of a summer jam, the band did part of the Steve Miller Band classic, “The Joker” and segued into Thompson Square’s signature song, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not.”

It took some fortitude to make it through the heat, but both audience and performers did it on Saturday.

No one left disappointed!
