“2016 has been a crazy year,” Keith noted before the tribute. “For extreme highs, extreme lows, spiritually, emotionally, and I want to take just a second to give my thanks to a few of the artists that we lost in 2016, and that have left an incredible mark on music, some of it on me. I grew up with a lot of these artists.”

The medley included nods to Merle Haggard, Glenn Frey, Prince, and Leonard Cohen. There’s also a special guest appearing as a backup singer and dancer.
