It was a nostalgic night at M3 Live in Anaheim Friday night (January 27th), as John Michael Montgomery wrapped up his current tour in Orange County.

One of the leaders in country music throughout the ’90s, JMM performed a selection of his from that decade, as well as his major hit from the 21st century, the bittersweet and patriotic, “Letters from Home.”

The mood was generally light-hearted, although the rollercoaster of emotions did dip at times, thanks to songs like “Friends” and “The Little Girl,” which JMM confessed to having been surprised by the passion that country radio embraced the song with in 1999, when it came out.

He also¬†recalled the time he spent on the road during the zenith of his career, and missing his wife and family, especially while performing the late ’90s hit, “Home to You.”

John Michael’s strength remains in his sweetly romantic ballads, like “I Can Love You Like That,” and “I Swear,” which had couples dancing and swaying in the aisles.

It’s been a quarter of a century since the world was first introduced to John Michael Montgomery, and he’s planning a 25th Anniversary Greatest Hits album to coincide with another tour later in the year.
