Hesperia Tattoo Artist Accused Of Rape Refuses To Attend Arraignment

After a rape investigation that lasted about 3 weeks, a High Desert tattoo artist was arrested Friday and then refused to attend his arraignment Tuesday, according to court records.

The Press Enterprise reports that 43 year-old Henry Richard Camarena Jr., of Hesperia, failed to show up in front of a Victorville judge to answer to the charges of raping an unconscious woman.

According to jail records, on Friday just after 1 p.m, the suspect was found at a Baldwin Park home on Ramona Boulevard and taken into custody.

Later he was booked at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of raping a drugged victim, and is reportedly being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.

It was stated in a sheriff’s news release that deputies took a report from a 19 year-old woman on the morning of June 1st, The woman said she had been raped the day before while getting a tattoo by Camarena, who is the owner of Team Art Collective Tattoo in Hesperia.

As part of the investigation, detectives served a search warrant at the tattoo shop at 14757 Bear Valley Road. While there, detectives discovered evidence that corroborated the victim’s statements, and soon after Camarena was arrested.

The release said, “Based on the circumstances surrounding this sexual assault, it is possible that there are additional victims.”
