It was one of the Inland Empire’s oldest and biggest shopping malls. The Carousel Mall in San Bernardino has reportedly closed its doors permanently.

For the past few years, the 43-acre mall in downtown San Bernardino was really struggling to stay alive. So, it’s really not that big of a surprise that it’s now closed.

Carousel Mall originally opened as Central City Mall back in 1972, and in the prime of its existence it housed 52 stores and 3 major department stores.

It was in 1991 that the mall was renamed to Carousel Mall.

CBS Los Angeles reports the last 14 tenants were evicted from Carousel Mall this year and the doors were permanently closed Friday.

There are plans for property as the city of San Bernardino said they’ll demolish the mall and build new shops, restaurants and housing.
