Time is running out to catch Forrest Gump on his run through Riverside County.
For weeks, an unknown gentleman has dressed in a yellow shirt, red short shorts, and a Bubba Gump fishing hat (identical to the outfit Tom Hanks wears in the cross-country running scenes from the movie “Forrest Gump”), and has been spotted mostly in downtown Riverside, but also as far south as Temecula, according to the Press Enterprise, sometimes even appearing with a companion dressed as Lieutenant Dan.
He was spotted yesterday at the Halloween Hot Rod Show, hosted by the Old Farts Car Club, at Evergreen Cemetery in Riverside.
While he won’t reveal his identity, he has graciously posed for selfies and pictures with fans, but did tell ABC7 in a news segment that aired today that he will hang up his running shoes after Halloween.
"Run, Forrest, run!" Many in Riverside have had that classic movie quote on the tips of their tongues over the last week. There have been several Forrest Gump sightings all over the city! Someone in a fake beard, yellow shirt, red shorts and a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. hat is running through town, causing a social media frenzy! Is this a Halloween hoax, or some sort of publicity stunt? @abc7robhayes is on the hunt, and he’ll get to the bottom of the movie-character mystery, on Eyewitness News at 5pm on ABC7 and abc7.com/live. If you see Forrest, share a pic with #abc7eyewitness!
