With the weather noticeably cooler than last weekend’s Big & Rich concert, Tyler Farr had no problem winning the crowd over with his easygoing style and solid performance in the final show of the 2017 Concert Series at Wilson Creek Winery in Temecula Sunday night (October 29th).
Donned in a Country Strong shirt from City Roots In Boots (a nod of support to the victims and survivors of the Route 91 Harvest Festival), Tyler’s setlist included hits like “Whiskey in My Water,” “Better in Boots,” and his latest single, “I Should Go to Church,” but album cuts like “Damn Good Friends,” “Poor Boy” (written about Tyler’s wife) and especially “Withdrawals” were also audience favorites.
His cover of Alabama’s “The Closer You Get” stayed very true to the original, and Tyler recalled earning his first-ever standing ovation at the Grand Ole Opry after playing “C.O.U.N.T.R.Y.” He also included a brand new song, “Who We Are” before performing the psycho-ex anthem, “Redneck Crazy.”
Closing out the set was a surprise cover of Alice in Chains’ “Man in the Box, followed by the downhearted “A Guy Walks Into a Bar,” further exemplifying the range of styles Tyler (who is also classically trained in opera) has mastered.
Opening the show were country-rockers and Temecula Valley favorites Kanan Road, whose performance had many fans asking if they had albums for sale.
During the change-over, a couple of autographed guitar was auctioned off, raising $7,000 for Royal Family Kids, which sends foster children to camp.
