Tenille Arts is this week’s One Minute With Monique artist!
This Canadian country artist began chasing her dreams at the age of eight. At the time, a neighbor overheard Tenille singing and encouraged her mother to pursue that talent, so she began strengthening her skills with dance, piano and vocal lessons.
Now, this 22-year-old Nashville resident has a new album out titled Rebel Child, where she wrote ten out of the eleven tracks off this album.
Her current single off the album , “Cold Feet,” has quite the heart wrenching storytelling. It gives you the play-by-play of a brides cold feet emotions on whether or not to marry the so called “Perfect Man” or an old flame.
For Tenille, this song reminded her of a Nicholas Sparks book and watching this song come to life was like a dream.
I reached out to Tenille Arts to ask a couple questions and she couldn’t have been more gracious to answer. Find out what she had to say about dream collaborations, songwriting, hearing herself on the radio for the first time and her favorite holiday channel.
- If there was one artist (any genre) you would love to collaborate with, who would it be and why?
I would love to collaborate with Miranda Lambert, or Taylor Swift! They are two women that I look up to, and I think I could learn a lot by collaborating with them!
- Where were you when you heard yourself on the radio for the first time?
I was in my hometown! I released a song called “Breathe” that was a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis a few years ago, and I didn’t even release it to radio, but my hometown was so supportive and played it many times on their Pop and Country station. The next time I heard myself again was when I was on a cross-Canada radio tour for my very first Country single from my debut EP that I released last year!
- Was “I Can Do the Leavin’” based on a personal experience? If so, could you tell me more about it?
“I Can Do The Leavin’” was about a friend of mine. I get a lot of inspiration from my friends and family. In this situation my friend decided it was time to say goodbye to her boyfriend, and they ended it because they felt like they were just going through the motions. I thought it was really strong for a woman to decide to walk away from a relationship and I thought it was a good message to get across!
- There’s two type of Christmas people in the world… Hallmark or Lifetime. Which channel do you find yourself watching this holiday season?
I love the Hallmark channel!! Both are great, but I love to have the Hallmark channel on all the time during the holiday season!
- “Cold Feet” has quite the storyline, how did this idea come to mind during the writing process?
“Cold Feet” was written by Adam Wheeler and John Ritter. I co-wrote 10 of the 11 songs on my new album, so this is the only song I recorded that I wasn’t a writer on! I absolutely loved it the first time I heard it and it reminded me of a Nicholas Sparks book in a song. I love that I got to hear this song for the first time and feel what a lot of my fans got to. It’s rare as a songwriter, to get to do that. Doing a music video for this song was a dream of mine, so it was great to be able to bring the story to life! It was the perfect song to have as the final track on my new album “Rebel Child”.Bonus question:
- What was your favorite TV Show growing up?
I didn’t watch a lot of TV growing up, but I remember we would always watch “7th Heaven” as a family, and then a lot of Disney movies!Follow Tenille Arts on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook – @TenilleArts.
