It’s not unusual for creative people to explore all types of outlets, and Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts is no exception. In addition music, he’s also done some acting, and recently revealed in a statement from his label that he read for the part of Deacon Claybourne on CMT’s “Nashville.”
Ultimately, the role went to Charles “Chip” Esten, who Jay happens to be friends with.
“It’s so funny, our little running joke is I read for the role of Deacon, and my buddy Chip got it. So I always like telling that he stole my gig,” the Rascal Flatts bassist jokes.
“I really just read for Deacon for the experience of it, because the more auditions you go on the more comfortable you become with the process,” Jay continues, in all seriousness. “And so it’s just been a neat thing for me to kind of find something new to sink my teeth into.”
