Thomas Rhett Thinks There's a Happy Ending In "Marry Me"

February 20, 2018

Thomas Rhett has said he wrote his latest single "Marry Me" from the perspective of what might have happened if he had never told his childhood friend (and now wife) Lauren how he felt about her, and the video for the song leaves a bit of a cliff-hanger at the end. Fortunately, the singer-songwriter thinks there is a happy ending there.

"This song was written out of a space of like if I had never told Lauren how I felt about her, then more than likely I would have been invited to that wedding of her marrying somebody else," he shares in a statement from his label.

"I probably wouldn’t have been as sad as the guy in the video but it probably would have still wrecked me. I think when you fall in love with somebody at a young age, that kind of thing sort of lingers with you for a long time, so at the end I wanted to really just rein in that Nicolas Sparks moment, you know, and really give the viewers a positive ending.

"So I think she left the wedding and came and now they’re together, wherever they are, living in the Virgin Islands somewhere."
