Luis Valbuena, who played for the Los Angeles Angels in 2018, died in an automobile accident in Venezuela on Thursday.

Valbuena played 11 seasons in the major leagues, starting his career with the Seattle Mariners in 2008. He also played for the Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros before the previous two seasons with the Angels.

Two former major leaguers were also involved in the accident. Ex-Pittsburgh Pirate José Castillo was also killed and former Arizona Diamondback Carlos Rivero, who was driving, survived.
