City of Riverside to Host Fourth of July Celebration Week

Starting Monday, the City of Riverside will be hosting a week-long Fourth of July celebration with the “Spirit of Riverside Fourth of July Celebration Week,” beginning with an Act of Service Day on Monday, June 29th. 

Residents are encouraged to document their participation on social media with the hashtag #SpiritOfRiverside, including celebrations with family and friends, decorated homes and businesses with patriotic themes, and how they view the city's spirit.

"Riverside is a patriotic community, and the Spirit of Riverside celebration gives us a way to demonstrate that patriotism all week," noted Mayor Rusty Bailey in a press release. "Whether it's showing love to your neighbors through acts of service or enjoying a family bike ride with me on July 4th, I challenge all Riversiders to safely celebrate, connect, and serve."

In addition, musicians are encouraged to enter the National Anthem Singing Collage, which will be broadcast on RiversideTV and on the City Riverside social media platforms. Submissions are requested by Tuesday, June 30th. More details here

“As families try to navigate safely through the COVID-19 pandemic, these events provide many opportunities to celebrate our nation’s birth,” adds Mayor Pro Tem Erin Edwards. “I look forward to seeing how Riversiders from all over our city show the #SpiritofRiverside.”

The complete list of events scheduled for each day includes:

Monday, June 29th – Act of Service Day – Help a neighbor or someone in need, then share a photo or video with the #SpiritofRiverside hashtag.

Tuesday, June 30th – Food Drive Collaborative -- Love Riverside and the city’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department will host a collaborative effort to collect food for local Riverside pantries from 9-11 a.m. at Hunt Park, 4015 Jackson St.

Wednesday, July 1st – Blood Drive -- Donate blood through a drive-through blood donation event from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Orange Terrace Park, 20010 Orange Terrace Pkwy. A food distribution drive is scheduled for 8-10:30 a.m. at La Sierra University Church, 4937 Sierra Vista Ave.; and 10-12 a.m. at Bordwell Park, 2008 Martin Luther King Blvd. (Food is available while supplies last.)

Thursday, July 2nd – Backpack Supply Drive – Help area children get ready for school by donating backpacks filled with paper, pencils, pens, binders, glue, crayons. Either a complete backpack or individual supplies are welcome from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Harvest Christian Fellowship Parking Lot, 6115 Arlington Ave.

Friday, July 3rd – What do you love about Riverside Parks? Share what you love about Riverside parks and make sure to tag #SpiritofRiverside.

Saturday, July 4th – Bike with the Mayor – Join Mayor Bailey to celebrate Independence Day with a ride through our beautiful city, starting at 10 a.m. at Arlington Heights Sports Park - 9401 Cleveland Ave. Prizes will be awarded for most patriotic family and best-decorated bike.
