Thomas Rhett has soaked up a lot of knowledge from his father, singer-songwriter Rhett Akins, including how to write songs for other artists, and how to pitch them.

“Especially once you have certain cuts on certain artists, you start to realize what they like and what they don’t like," the "Life Changes" singer explains in a statement from his label. "And then if an artist is wanting to branch out, and they’re asking for this kind of song, you know how to write that song for that person.

"Like, you know, I’ve heard dad pitching songs to people like Jason Aldean and dad’ll go in there and actually try to sing it like Jason so that when Jason hears the demo it’s already kind of in his head, like, ‘That’s me and that’s great, let’s go do it.’ And so he’s got it down to a science.”
