100 MPH Speeding Tickets Double

Monday, May 18th

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed our lives in so many ways including the way we drive. Caltrans has seen about a 35% drop in traffic from the same time last year, but more people are driving way too fast. From March 19 when the state’s stay-at-home order began to April 19, the CHP issued nearly 2,500 tickets statewide for speeding more than 100 miles an hour.

To put that in perspective, they issued a little over 1,300 tickets for driving over 100 mph during the same time period last year.

Tim Weisberg Public Information Officer for the Office of Traffic Safety came on the program to urge drivers to slow down.
